When is Primary Recruitment?
Formal Recruitment takes place over 2 weekends. You must be in attendance on all days in order to participate in Recruitment. The dates are: September 1st, September 2nd, September 7th, and September 8th.
What is a PNM?
PNM stands for Potential New Member. This is any woman looking to join a Panhellenic chapter.
Are there requirements as a PNM to join?
Women participating in Panhellenic Primary Recruitment, known as a potential new member, are required to adhere to the following:
A Potential New Member is required to attend and complete the following:
Potential New Member Orientation (you will receive the event details in your registration confirmation email).
Attend the first round of Panhellenic Primary Recruitment parties (Open House Round).
Attend all subsequent parties to which you have been extended an invitation.
A Potential New Member must be a full-time, degree-seeking student at the University of Tampa to be eligible to participate in Recruitment.
A Potential New Member who previously accepted a bid from a Panhellenic chapter during Primary Recruitment 2023 or Non-Primary Spring Recruitment 2024, but was not initiated, is eligible to participate in 2024 Primary Recruitment.
Any person who has been initiated in an NPC sorority or international sorority is not eligible for participation as a Potential New Member in Panhellenic Primary Recruitment.
A Potential New Member shall act respectfully to all Panhellenic Primary Recruitment Counselors, chapter women, and fellow Potential New Members. Inappropriate behavior could result in removal from Panhellenic Primary Recruitment.
A Potential New Member who breaks her new member agreement with an NPC sorority on this campus shall not be eligible to join another sorority until the next Primary Panhellenic Recruitment.
A Potential New Member who withdraws from the primary Recruitment process before signing her Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement or MRABA shall be eligible for snap bidding and Continuous Open Bidding (COB).
If I sign up/participate in Recruitment, am I obligated to join a chapter?
No— If you decide that this process is not for you, you are not required to join a chapter.
Are there GPA requirements to join?
Per the FSL Handbook, PNMs must have at least a 2.5 GPA to join the FSL community. A student’s most recent GPA is taken into account for this (high school, transfer, or UT GPA). Each sorority has its criteria for membership and GPA requirements which can be found on their individual pages by going to the “Chapters” dropdown at the top.
If I am not a first-year student or am already involved in other areas on campus, can I join a sorority?
Yes! The University of Tampa Panhellenic welcomes anyone interested in joining a sorority, no matter where they are at in their college journey. At the University of Tampa, we do not discriminate against age or classification, ability, race, or religion. Every woman who enters the Recruitment process is given an equal opportunity to make connections with Panhellenic women.
Do I get to pick the chapter I visit each day/end up joining?
The University of Tampa Panhellenic Recruitment is that of a mutual selection process. The Mutual Selection Process is the method by which a chapter evaluates potential new members and potential new members evaluate chapters as they are narrowing down their desired invitations during the Primary Recruitment process. As Potential New Members evaluate the chapters they are most interested in joining, the chapters evaluate the women whom they believe best align with that organization’s values and the active members of their chapter. After each round of Recruitment, Potential New Members prioritize which chapters they would like to visit the next day of Recruitment based on the conversations they had with chapter members, how their values align with those of the chapters, and where they feel most comfortable. The same will happen on the chapter side of things. Invitations to return to each chapter on another day of Recruitment are the result of this Mutual Selection Process.
It is important to note that the Mutual Selection Process may mean not going back to a chapter you prioritized highly as you may receive an invitation to a chapter you have indicated as a low priority; reasons you may receive an invitation to a sorority you indicated as a low priority include (but are not limited to) how many Potential New Members a sorority can invite back and not meeting membership requirements like GPA.
Do I need letters of recommendation?
The College Panhellenic Association at The University of Tampa does not accept letters of recommendation for Panhellenic Primary Recruitment. We do not submit letters of recommendation to the chapters on the Potential New Member’s behalf.
However, please contact their National Headquarters directly if you would like to submit a letter of recommendation to one, some, or all of the chapters.

I am a legacy to a sorority — what should I know?
Each Potential New Member is considered on an individual basis; a legacy is no more obligated to join a particular chapter than the chapter is obligated to offer a bid to her. Panhellenic has no policies regarding legacies because each chapter has its own policy, and Panhellenic has no input in individual chapter membership decisions. Because we have so many young women going through Recruitment, it is not guaranteed that every legacy will join her legacy chapter.
However, we do want to make sure that your legacy chapter knows that you are coming through Recruitment! Make sure that on your registration form, you indicate if you have any connections to the chapters on our campus. To be a legacy of a sorority, you must be related to someone who was initiated into that sorority: your sister, mother, grandmother, and sometimes aunt or cousin.
How much does registration cost and what does it pay for?
Registration for Primary Recruitment is $45.00. The registration fee covers a PNM Spirit Day shirt as well as Recruitment website registration.
Registration refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Requests for a refund must be received before Friday, August 30, 2024, at 1:00 PM EST. To request a refund, please email panhellenic@ut.edu.
Where can I find information about individual semester dues and finances?
For now, you can visit each chapter’s individual page on this website by going to the “Chapters” dropdown at the top. There is where you will find a range of dues for each sorority. Throughout the Recruitment process, you'll receive detailed financial information from each chapter you visit. This provides you with the opportunity to directly inquire about specific financial matters and any other pertinent questions to the chapter women.
Are there sororities on campus that do not participate in Formal Recruitment?
Yes! UT has a strong Unified Greek Council (UGC) which governs 4 sororities in the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and 2 sororities within the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) that have their own recruitment/intake processes. Although historically black or multicultural by tradition, membership in these organizations is inclusive and is open to all! These chapters participate in Membership Intake, which is a process that is unique and individually organized by each chapter. To learn more, attend individual chapter informational sessions, speak to current members, or fill out the UGC Interest Form linked below and found on the Fraternity & Sorority Life page on InvolveUT.
These sororities include: Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., & Gamma Eta Sorority, Inc.
Students who wish to find out more about these sororities and joining the Unified Greek Council should contact utampafsl@ut.edu.
Who can I reach out to if I have more questions?
